Default Hello! Can you help me identify this bowl?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and tried to post this message a few minutes ago and it disappeared during the preview, so if it show up twice please excuse!

The glass bowl is 3" high and about 6" diameter across the top. It is opalescent turquoise with white highlights and weighs about 1½ pounds. I can find no marks or labels. It has been suggested that the bowl is Murano glass, ca 1950's or 60's, attributed to Fratelli Toso. I'd really appreciate any information about what it actually is. Thank you. - David

It doesn't have the look of Fratelli Toso to me. However, F. Toso made a lot of things and there is so much that I don't know.

Thank you both for your input.... any idea who the manufacturer is? The bowls (6) seem to be suited for serving a fruit salad appetizer or dessert rather than for display.

They are very unique but I dont think they can be attributed to a particular mfr.

It's been suggested that this bowl is possibly by Barbini... does anyone have an opinion on this?

I wish I could be more helpful. The cut of the petals reminds me of birdbath flower ashtrays that have been attributed to Salviati. Their work has been so diverse and much of it is reminescent of other artists' work that it can be difficult to identify. I do not know of any opalescent glass that Salviati did, but it is probably out there. Salviati has been around for a long time. They are still putting out some really nice things.

Artists' techniques can be so readily copied from others. Salviati has borrowed a few "looks" that were popular, and in turn has been copied by others. Artists moving place to place makes it even more complicated.

Is your flower bowl irridescent? Or is it just very brilliant? That may be a good clue about who might have made the bowl.

If these bowls have open spaces between the petals on the inside, and it looks as if they do from your photos, then they wouldn't be for actual use. If the interior is completely sealed, then they could be.
