Spangled & Twisted Cornucopia Vase, Applied Feet - question

Hi there!

My husband walked in to the house this afternoon bearing this little treasure - once he unwrapped it and set it on the table, I thought "I've seen that in my book!" It's about 6.25" tall and only about 3" wide at the base (measuring across the widest part of the feet).

A very similar piece is shown in John Schumann III's Art Glass Identification and Price Guide, on page 126. It's listed as just "Pink Spangled and Twisted Venetian Cornucopia - with clear applied feet". His photo is really kind of dark, but you can still see the resemblance.

Ours has gold aventurine in the applied feet, and is ruby instead of pink, and is standing up instead of laying down - other than that, it's identical. LOL.

Thanks, R Stocker - the top is crimped and pulled almost identically, but that doesn't mean anything in this day and age of every Asian country making repros, I'm sad to say. I am still holding out hope that this one is an oldie, but ?????

Kelli, I have had a couple of cornucopia vases and know how hard it can be to attribute them. They look like they would be easy, but they often aren't. I don't know who made yours, but it is a form I would expect from Salviati, Barovier, or AVeM. It looks to be a 1950s form to me -- just a guess based on the popularity of this type of ruby swirled glass during this time.

I wish I knew for sure, but there were quite a few large and small companies who made the swirled ruby glass. It would be nice to find one with a label!

Anita, Thanks! Yes, I would love to see one of these with a label - it would sure clear up a lot of questions.

We were in Tacoma last year, at the Museum of Glass there....I was able to see a stunning Salviati piece, but they did not allow cameras I'm sorry to say.
Outside the Museum however there is a bridge where they had a large display of Chihuly glass in cases. I was kind of tickled to see that a lot of his work uses some of the forms seen in Salviati's old work - the little dolphin rigaree handles, otherworldly flowers with lots of applied lacy details, etc. are shown in Chihuly's "Venetian Wall" on the Bridge of Glass in Tacoma.

It looks like other Murano pices I have seen with lables. When you have sold as many things I have you can't remeber anything. LOL I wish I had paid more attention all those years I sold things. Now I am finding so many Murano pieces that I am trying to catch up on who made what but I am finding Murano glass is harder do identify more than most other art froms.

My good laptop crashed that has the soft ware for my camera.

I found a vase just like this one today for $2 at the swap meet. I have found 5 little pices this week. None over $3. I found and amber cat 3 1/2 inches hig and a little larger amber fish that match. The label is V. Nason
The following post is at Ruby lane and the dealer says they have seen one signed by Toso. It is the same one I picked up for $2. I also found a 9 inch tall angle with halo. I am not sure it is Murano but I think it is. It has a lot of ware on the bottom and a lot of dirt up inside.

We found a couple more pieces this weekend - one I've already got listed on eBay, it's a pretty little pink crimped dish, and then I found this one that I THINK is Italian, made to resemble Victorian-ish glass from England.

I'll post them both below - if anyone has any clues about the second one I'd love to know!!

Nice pieces. Hope you do well with your sales. Ruby Lane is so funny. I contact some of the dealers and they tell me they have no clue about what they are selling most of the time. I found a Murano vace for $2 at the swapmeet yesterday. There is one just like it at Ruby lane for $100. I think it is worth $40 - $60 in good times.
