I just opened a box with another couple of pieces of beautiful glass. This sounds pleasant enough, but by the time I finished getting them free of their wrapping, I was about ready to dash the pieces into the wall. I thought maybe I would feel better if I aired my complaints here.
First, the sender put paper and bubble wrap around the glass (good), but then totally mummified the glass with priority mail tape. It was as if she thought the vase and bowl were wild animals that would thrash about, trying to escape, so had to be subdued. I have had some glass that was so covered with tape that it was a challenge to open the package without breaking the glass. Then, the sender packed in a box of confetti -- the kind formed from bi-directional shredders. I don't mind newspaper or shredded, spaghetti-like newspaper. But the confetti is another thing. It gets all over the furniture and the floor, no matter how careful one might try to be. It inevitably means I have to vacuum to get all the giblets up. I think we ought to write a book on packaging etiquette. I think a lot of senders don't think about how it will be to open the package on the other side. Anita |

I had a cookie jar come in a large box with only "1" sheet of newspaper in it. The newspaper was not wrapped around the cookie jar but on top of it, I guess to protect the flimsly cardboard top lol. Needless to say it was crushed by mailing First Class. Post Office wrote on box "Badly Damage" Lol so were my feelings.

Nothing worse than receiving a box of broken glass. Some people just don't seem to have good sense when it comes to packing. I received a box of broken glass a while back and ended up having to do a PayPal complaint. A large vase was sent with almost no packing. The seller wouldn't even answer my emails, so I had to file through PayPal for a refund. The money was refunded after about a month. Of course, I would have preferred the vase.
A bad thing is that PayPal required I send the vase back, so it was a few dollars out of my pocket paid for a broken vase.Anita |

I have been shipping glass for years, and can count on one hand the times glass has been returned to me broken. Packing glass at times is somewhat of an art, but it is 90% common sense. Glass is relatively durable, especially the larger, heavier items such as Sommerso. I worry about shipping pottery more, to me it seems more fragile, and chips easier.

I had a beaut,
I saw a small piece of lampwork on ebay that I suspected was Pirreli, not Murano as described and as such worth quite a lot more. I won the auction at the start price of £1.99, a nice profit in the making. Oh dear, as soon as I started opening it I new it was broken ( its the rattle that does it ).Well, believe it or not, it was wrapped in toilet paper. When I emailed the seller to tell him of my misfortune, the muppet had the cheek to say " I can't understand it, I took special care with the wrapping". I think "wrapping" rather than "packing" was part of the problem. Oh, and I was right, it was a perrili. martin |
