Question $200 or $6,000?

I bought this Murano (I think) lamp for $35. I have tried to research it, but the value range is huge. I really don't know anything much about Murano glass lamps. It is 37" tall. I assume the gawdy lamp base is original. I was unable to find any type of label. I haven't dismantled it and don't really want to. I've looked at the Swank Lighting website and it seems they have removed the original bases from most of the lamps. No one these days likes the Hollywood style of the 60s I guess.

kimlakin, it is a nice Murano lamp. I am not sure who made it. People ask various prices for Murano lamps. They are fairly abundant, so most go toward the lower end of the range you gave. Lamps that are more rare or made by "in" names tend to go for more.

To tell the truth, I've never seen a lamp sell for $6K, though I'm sure they are out there. I've seen chandeliers for that much, but not the lamps.

Have to add that your base looks very much like one that was used for Murano lamps. It could easily be original. Often when Murano lamps have labels, they are on the inside. And then often it is simply a "Made in Italy" label. You can disassemble the lamp and check if you are interested.

Thanks for the info. Is the lamp more valuable with the original base or is the value only in the glass? I might try dismantling to look for a label, but it seems so fragile....

Dismantling lamps is a bit of a hassle. If there is a label inside, it is often a generic "Made in Italy" label. You already know that about your lamp, so I wouldn't worry. Many people do prefer their lamps to be original, but I don't know what the general trend is there. I have only sold a couple of lamps. They are so hard to ship and the shipping is so high!

Thanks for your help. I bought it thinking I would resell it. But as it sits in my house I grow more and more fond of it--in all of its gawdiness. It doesn't really suit my house, but what the heck...
