Post WEIL Murano Glass ?

This is my first time here, so hope I am doing this right..

I have a beautiful Red Shell shaped dish with Gold sparkling spots
throughout, also Controlled bubbles.. On the bottom there is a worn,
partial black label with Silver letters.
All I can make out of it the top line has ENE and the bottom line is WEIL and some of that is worn, but you can still make that much out, the
rest of label is missing.. I could not find a WEIL label amongst
your labels and not sure what this originally looked like. Could you
tell me anything about when this was made. I would send pictures but
not sure how to do that. Thank you.. Rochelle Lutz (raelutz@aol.com)
I am not sure how to link pictures here so I hope this is ok.

Weil Ceramics & Glass is not a Murano company, but Barbini made a whole lot of glass for them in the early 1960s. Some of the Barbini for Weil pieces are inexpensive and others are costly. Many of the animals made by Barbini were for Weil. The bowl that you show pictures for does not look like a Barbini bowl. I don't know who could have made it. The label is different than the ones used by Barbini for Weil.

I found this link to a covered dish that has a label like yours: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...-black-covered. The dish in the auction was made by Vincenzo Nason & Co. So more than one company made things for Weil. I forgot to mention that Weil is a US company that operated out of NY at the time these pieces were imported. If you would like to read more of their history, you can Google the name. There is apparently a skeleton of the company remaining today.

The bowl is Murano glass. It was imported into the US by a NY company, Weil Glass & Ceramics. (Kind of like Wal-Mart imports things from China, even though it is a US company)

Red face WEIL Label

Thank you JURGEN, I do appreciate everyones in put and the picture of the label. Now if I could find out if being red, and having the gold flakes/dust in it makes it anymore valuable.

Thanks again Every so much..

I can't see the bowl well enough to tell, but the metal is likely to be copper aventurine instead of gold. The clustering looks more like aventurine. However, there might be gold I can't see in the pictures.

As to value -- Ashtrays tend to not have a lot of value at the present time unless they are exceptional. This is probably because they require a lot of shelf place to display. You can get a good idea of the value of your tray by finding similar pieces on eBay. Some online stores also have ashtrays/bowls.

Default Weil glass

Thank you, for your information.. I will check around and see what like pieces run for.. I am inclined to think this not so much of an ashtray as just an art glass decorative bowl.. I would not let anyone use mine for an ashtray.. Thanks again.. I am going to consider this subject concluded..

Thanks Everyone for your input.. Shelly
