Default Grandma and Grandpa's Goose

Hi all -
I'm new to this, as you can tell. I posted my album before this post.

Grandma and Grandpa traveled extensively in Europe and brought this guy home. It has been an amazement to me all my life. Mom and Dad got him after they passed and I, in turn got him when Mom and Dad passed in 2008. I believe it is a Murano, but have never seen one like this. Here is what I do know:

It has a label like the one in my album and here (that I pulled from the Murano label library) from the 1950's and 1980's. My mother put a note on the bottom with a piece of tape saying: "From the Isle of Murano, near Venice. One of a kind. Valuable".

He stands 14.5" tall. Is a dark blue/green at the head and vignettes to a light blue/green at the bottom. He weighs in at 5 lbs. It is covered with an almost "white dust", but it does not come off when touched. I have inspected it closely and there are no other markings on it that I can see.

If anyone has seen anything like this guy, I would be curious as to value and any history.

Thanks. AnnieO

Default I.d. Murano duck

Hi AnnieO you have a very nice Cenedese duck/swan ,it is in the "SCAVO" style where its looks as if it had been buried and unearthed, 1950/60s in date most probaly by Gino Cendese, some say that the style resembles that of retrieved Roman artifacts. This item is quite large and if not a one off certainly scarce Anita will be pleased to see it ,as to value in my opinion over the $1000 mark .Cliff

Very unique! I do not recall seeing much scavo by Cenedese at all. If you click on the "Scavo" tag at the bottom of the page, there are more examples of the technique.

It is a nice one. Most of the scavo geese I see are standing barefoot on the ground and are about 12". I like the stand this one is one. It makes it more elegant. Annie0, if you would like me to add his picture to the zoo, you can email me the picture (acaudle52 at gmail.com). If you send me your full name, I'll credit the picture to you.

You can see the zoo by clicking the link at the bottom of my signature.

Great goose!
