Default Just aquired this vase.

I just aquired this vase and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. I looked through the label library and could not find it. It is hard to see in the pic but, the label reads "Genuine Venetian Glass", with "I. & E. D." in the center with "Made In Murano Italy" on the bottom. The vase measures about 9" tall and 7 1/2" wide at the top. Also there are gold flecks in the beading along the sides and around the top edge. One more thing.. The top of the vase is crimped in the center. I plan on adding it to my collection and would like to know how much to insure it for if possible. Here is the good news.. This one was a gift from a close friend so no out of pocket expense.

Thank you,
Jim

Hi, Jim. I've seen your vase and related glass many times. Most of the time it has the "Genuine Venetian Glass, Made in Murano" import label that is scalloped and shaped a bit like your label. I've seen the I & ED one other time -- it may have been your vase. I wondered if it was an import company.

I have never seen any attributions for this vase design. I don't know if there is anyone who knows. It would interesting to learn who did them.

At first I thought of Empoli but, I have yet to find any reference to their designs. I have been crusing the Blenko sites and I thought I saw a vase that looks close to this one in what they call "fakes". I have yet to come across it again so I thought I would post a pic and see what I could find out. Maybe someone else has seen it somewhere. Thanks for the info.

Jim, it is definitely a Murano piece. There is a whole line of this type of glass. It used to be offered frequently on eBay.

I just checked my picture files. I have one that is like yours, but is in a cranberry like color. It has the remnants of the "Genuine Venetian Glass..." label on bottom
