Here is a substantial piece my wife and I bought from an Antique
dealer on Magazine Street in New Orleans about 7 years ago. It has golden color, intricate fluted shape and internal bubble patterns; 16.75" H, top 10.75", base 5" and has etched signature in bottom of "Teso Murano". It may be "bullicante" - as I understand, gold dust, patterned throughout the vase, and concentrated in the base. I would appreciate any input you may have as to whether it is authentic Murano glass, and its current value. Thanks for your time, Ignorant but Interested Last edited by bhlb424; 07-23-2009 at 06:57 PM.. Reason: add photos |

Does it match any of the signatures in the Library?

Thanks Alex- I went back and the engraved signature does appear to be TOSO (rather than TESO) Murano. I checked the signature library, and there is no exact match, but one on page 5 is close- the "s" in TOSO is different though on my vase. Any further info you may have or opinions as to origin, when created, what it is, value, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that all the vases signed Toso Murano were made by Stefano Toso. You can read a little about him at http://www.rendezvousofthearts.com/b...efano_toso.htm. If you google his name, the links will take you to some of the things that he has done. He has made quite a few vases.
Hope this helps some.

Wow, thanks for the great link you found Anita. I did not know Toso apprenticed for Franco Moretti. F. Moretti Glassworks is the name of his company. I have always wondered if anyone apprenticed with him and know I have learned something new. So in other words Franco's unsigned work maybe by an apprentice. I have seen a few Moretti cats on Ebay and most are signed by him but some are not and appear to be not as perfectly made as the signed ones and I've always wondered if an apprentice made them for Franco Moretti Glassworks but going by the info in the link I can almost bet that the cats I saw were the work of one of his apprentices. Thanks again for the great link. I think I have finally pieced together the answer to my question with your link.
I really love the vase. It looks to be really well made and if Franco trained him then his work is probably superb. tam bam |
