I bought these dogs online about 5 years ago because they were cute! They were advertised as vintage Murano glass. Can anyone verify the age and if they are Murano and what might they be worth?
The green one stands about 6 inches tall, the purple one about 5.5 inches. Thanks for your help! |

I have seen these types of dogs attributed to Archimede Seguso, though I have never seen any documented proof of the attribution. They are sometimes called fantasy pieces. There are several types of dogs, e.g. poodle, bull dog, griffon, Scotty. They are so cute that many people like them. I saw a fantasy bull dog the other day that the seller said had a "Made in Italy" label on it. I wish we could find one that had an Archimede Seguso label or signature on it, so I could be sure of the attribution.
BTW, I have one of the griffon dogs on eBay now. Bidda also has one that is majorly cute. I like these dogs. Who could help but grin when they look at them? Anita |

I ran across this ICET dog on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/Murano-Glass-Sch...QQcmdZViewItem
It looks a lot like the presumed A. Seguso pieces, doesn't it? I notice that it doesn't have the colored glass nose or tongue. I can't see the eBay dog well, but it doesn't seem to have the detail of the presumed Seguso pieces. I know that ICET borrows animal ideas from Murano, so this may be a borrowed idea. I wish we could find one of the detailed fantasy dogs that has a label. Anita |

close dimensions/proportion to the ICET one too. i've also seen the "presumed Seguso" (good term ) dogs attributed to Fratelli Toso. i wonder if the mystery will ever be solved. until someone can find one signed, with a label and/or in a book my pup keeps his job guarding my coffee cup on the side table, much to my husband's chagrin ![]() bidda

The picture of the unknown dog is not very good. It's hard to see anything. Sometimes I wonder why people even bother to take a picture if they aren't going to show something useful. I don't see any color at all on the dog in the link.
ICET can be a concern. I recently bought an elephant and was trying to figure out what it is. ICET made an elephant almost just like mine, only the four feet were separate, Mine has the front and rear foot attached on one side, like is it walking. ICET didn't make any like this. (Barovier & Toso made a similar one, but the trunk and tusks are a little different. Attributing some of these animals takes a lot of attention to little things. It can drive a person crazy. I need to learn the ICET animals so I can pick them out in a line-up. Anita |

i was going through some of my books today and found an almost exact match for the "presumed Seguso" dogs like mine in Judith Miller's 20th Century Glass (2004), page 115.
it says the following: "Venetial glass Scottie dog with black glass and gold inclusions and original foil 1950s. 9 in (23 cm) long $150-200" the dog shown has a ribbed body, red nose and tongue and two color applied eyes. sooo, no closer to a specific maker but at least we can be reasonably certain that it's mid-century Murano. bidda
