Here is a little bit about sfumato. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sfumato Many glassmasters were artists, so the terms often carry over. I believe that sfumato simply refers from the shading of one translucent color to another (or clear?) without any sharp boundary between the two.
I took the sfumato off of the bowl in the auction -- I'm crystalcoin. I think it is more confusing than helpful and I am not really sure of what sfumato is myself when it comes to the glass. Some people say yes, it is sfumato. Others say no. The bowl is pretty whatever the technique. ![]() Anita |
