Default Inherited Pieces - I need help with

I inherited this 6 1/2 " Tortoise Shell Egg with the Murano Sticker. I found a small one on ebay but nothing this large with this pattern. The label is creased and falling off but looks like 01 something and SS.

Here's a link to my album - http://www.fossilfly.com/Forums/album.php?u=9045

The other one (the cat)I just found in my shed. Someone left it here who knows when. I can't tell if it's Murano, vintage or what.

Any info would be appreciated. Are they worth keeping or selling? Or??

Jan

The label is one found on a fair bit of vintage Murano. Nobody has found which company used this label. One their better pieces, I think. Not a clue about the cat, though.

Thanks David. Any idea of value on the Tortoise Shell? Are they considered a paper weight or just a decorative item? It really is a stunner!

Hi. The egg is a great piece and unique, I cant recall seeing one that large.

Regarding the cat, V.Nason, a company in Murano, have made similar items, but so have Marcolini and Kostenglas. Does it have a label or signature? I tagged this thread at the bottom, so you can click on the link to see similar pieces.

Default Thanks every one

You all have been a great help so far - I inherited these. The cat - was left at my house by "who knows who"?

This glass ID is tough.

Because I live in the Southwest (Tucson) I thought the cat might be Mexican. When you go to a border town you see a bunch of the same type pieces, It might be Mexican, don't you think or am I totally off base?

Looks hand blown but I don't think it's the same high quality as Italian. The inner-part is not as intricate as othr pieces I've seen but it's still good quality and has a heavy weight to it.

I just don't want to ever sell these pieces on ebay or what-ever and not know what I have. Good or bad!

The cat has one of the poses and decors used by V Nason. The tail is right for them. So V Nason it is.

Default I love this

Anita - went here and love this. So stunning! http://www.rubylane.com/item/605831-...illefili-Geode

You all have been so much help.

I am an antique & vintage appliance person
and have a blog http://ramonasvintageapplianceforum.wordpress.com/. It's all info no selling.

I have no clue about glass and pottery. I have inherited but really not my thing.

That being said --- what about value. I see more and more of the mid-century pieces selling but is it a good time to sell?

Default Re: BOWL in LINK

Of course, being the novice I am, I saw this gorgeous bowl on E-bay and wanted to bid and didn't. The reason is that last year I purchased a "Martens" vase in turquoise, white, and brown from a seller on e-bay that normally has reputable pieces. He had it pictured with a Quitenbaum catalog pic as well. Well, it is a fake as you can't feel the canes on the outside and was just "too good to be true". Usually I try to research things the best I can but sometimes I get duds. This is the second piece (another was a blanco nero piece that wasn't real either, just in the "Style" as I found it later on an auction site he'd probably purchased it from). I lost a few hundred on those two deals. The vase and other piece are probably a Chinese or South American knock offs worth about $20 and $5.

I was sufficiently paranoid not to bid on this bowl but deep down I KNEW it was real. I am so glad if turned out to be so, so sad I didn't bid. But someday! This is such a wonderful forum to learn from. Boy do I love that bowl.

Default Sorry, hit send too fast

I love the EGG you have. It's lovely and I think that now is the time to try to sell. The prices for Murano glass are through the roof. They are much, much higher selling prices than two years ago.
