Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone would like to share their favorite Murano glass sites. I'm been checking the net and thought it may be nice to see what others favorite sites are.

I like muranoglass.com and promovetro.com, (both offer the same content) but for images of as great collection, I like olnickspanu.com.
Boglewood.com was great up until the last 18 months, when the bulk of the content of the site was removed and added to the "Murano Magic" book. Its still a good site though, just not as detailed.
What about you?

The Gardner & Barr (http://www.gardnerandbarr.com/) website is informative, as it is a a Gallery that specializes in Venetian Glass from the 1850s to the 1950s. It also hosts a large image library, some great articles about the history of Venetian Glass and is co-owned by the author of "Venetian glass, Confections in Glass, 1855-1914". From the text and images it seems that they specialize in Salviati. The gallery is located at 213 East 60th Street. New York, NY 10022. (212) 752-0555. I havent been to the gallery, but would like to check it out some day.

For collectors who don't have any books on Murano glass, or the books dont cover the pieces they are trying to value, one option is to search the major auction sites. The sites search pages at both Sothebys (http://search.sothebys.com) and Christies (http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/search/AdvancedSearch.asp) allow you to view current and past lots with prices, and also offer an image for comparison purposes.

The article on Murano fakes was very good. The world is a treacherous place when it comes to money. I am glad that they mentioned a couple of things -- that Venini pieces are signed and that Dino Martens pieces are often fakes. Anyone knows that in the land of eBay the name Martens should be ignored unless one is sure. I see his Oriente pieces far too often and only a couple of them have looked right. Buying online is tricky, because you can't feel the glass. I've been disappointed a couple of times when I expected rich glass, only to get the brittle thin glass of a poor quality fake.
I imagine that we are ultimately going to reach the point that the heirs of glassmakers are going to have to step in, the way that Tiffany and the Bianconi family is trying to do. If the number of fakes overwhelm the market, the market prices will drop. It would be nice if we were able to have the work authenticated when we receive a piece. I don't know how that could be done without overwhelming the company representatives. We could have things authenticated locally, but if others are like myself, there is no one around with dependable knowledge.
The information about the colors of many fakes, etc., not looking right was very good information. I've also noticed that the clear glass is very clear in many of the more recent pieces. This may even be true within a company. I may be wrong, but I assume that when I look at a crystal clear piece of Murano that it was produced after 1970. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm very pleased to be able to share this the link to an exceptional Murano site - Vetri Di Murano.
http://www.vetrodimurano.org/
What's especially terrific about the site is that, once you get on the home page, you can click on the phrase: Le Fabbriche del Vetro (basically - glass makers) - and a list of more than 50 Murano glass sites will be accessed.
Then you can click on the names of the furnaces/factories/companies that are on the list and access the specific websites. Most of the most important Murano glass factories, importers, and shops are on the list.
It's an invaluable aid for collectors of Murano.

Below is an excerpt from the site, Swanklighting.com (http://www.swanklighting.com/blog)
The Edward P. Paul Company originally imported these gorgeous high-end lamps from the finest Venetian glass houses including Barovier & Toso, Barbini, Seguso, and Venini. They were marketed under the BALBOA trade name and were sold exclusively at their New York City store. Later, BALBOA lamps were offered at fine department stores such as Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Marshall Fields

If you have any positively identified fish, birds, mammals, or other animals, they have a place in the zoo. Just send good pictures and proof of attribution to me. Of course, I'll give credit to the person sending the photos.
Anita, great job on the zoo! I have it bookmarked :)

Thanks, Charlie. It was a lot of fun to put together. Tami sent a picture of her Franco Moretti elephant to put in the zoo. I put the link on my signature so people can reach it easier. I hope we're able to get a lot more animals captured soon. (Of course, the animals are free range) :)

This one is definitely worth saving. It has some pieces that one usually doesn't see with attributions.

TxSilver mentioned this site about Murano paperweights in another thread, and thought it would be helpful if it was posted here. Some great examples.

Alan made a good site, Charlie. A lot of the paperweight pictures are the ones I've sold over the past few years. I'm glad that Alan started the site so other people could use the pictures to ID their paperweights. antiquerose will probably recognize one or two PWs on the site.
Rats -- I see the site hasn't been updated recently. I sent a few more pictures that aren't on yet, including a couple of Archimede Seguso and a Galliano Ferro.

The text of this wonderful A. Seguso site will have to be translated, but the pictures speak for themselves. Short book after book of A. Seguso things.

I have a new FB page. It is open to the public, so you don't have to "like" the page to see things. The photo section has 14 albums of glass pictures done by the different companies. I hope people find the pictures helpful. The link is http://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Marcos-Art-Glass/122210524509576?v=wall. Just click the photos tab to get to the picture albums.
The site is open to FB members who want to post things to the wall. To see things others write, be sure to click the "San Marcos Glass + Others" link at the top of the page.

Just learned about this site via Twitter. I posted about the exhibit, which celebrates the Murano Glass Museum's 50th anniversary previously. The website has more details, but unfortunately is light on photos.

I am still pretty much of a novice at Murano glass, but I was researching some today and found this auction site. Many good examples and auction results. Perhaps it might be of help to you too!

This link shows much of the modern offerings of Chirico, a company that has the Lavorazione Arte Murano label. The company is in Naples (Napoli). You'll recognize many of the pieces as "Murano" glass that is offered on many sites both online and offline.
