Have you every wondered who makes the huge range of hand tools that are used in Murano to form and work with the hot glass? The company, Carlo Dona, makes many of these high quality tools, and many are available in the US through Spiralarts (http://www.spiralarts.com). Although meant to be used for decades, a collector might be interested in adding a nice touch to their collection by showing one of the tools commonly used to create the glass. They are not cheap by any standard, but you get what you pay for. A visit to the site is interesting as well, you can check out all of the molds, shears, tweezers and every other tool used to make glass, even a murrine cutter!

Some very nicely made tools, but pricy. However it is good to see the tools that are used to form the glass. I thought the pineapple molds and the murrine chopper were the most interesting. I have seen the dies (?) for drawing the murrine before, but I always wondered how the murrine were cut from the rod. Are they cut when the rod is hot or cold?
