Hi All,

I have recently purchased a beautiful Murano Apothecary jar. I didn't even realize it was Murano until I got it home and looked closer at the gold foil label on the front as some of the letters are worn off. I would like to know more about this item. What is it exactly, a perfume bottle or indeed an apothecary jar, how old is it and what might it's value be? I have it priced at $5.00 just to get it listed, but I am not really sure of it's value. I have been unable to find anything close to it anywhere online. You can view it here:

Thank you for you help in advance,

Melissa

Hi Melissa. Welcome to the Forums! I think it could be either a perfume bottle or a apothecary jar, but I would have to say that perfume bottles are more common. Also, for perfume bottles, the stopper is often made in 1 of 2 ways, either from solid glass that is ground to fit the bottle or blown, tapering cone that fits snugly when the stopper is in place. The brass (?) adornment around the neck and base, is not often seen in Murano Glass, and somewhat unusual. The label doesn't look familiar to me, so I think it was probably made for export and not made by a "famous" Murano manufacturer, but that does not detract from its appeal, as I have always been a fan of opalescent glass. As far as value, you could probably sell it for $30-$50 (?) as a ballpark number. Let me know if you find out anymore information on the label as I would be interested in learning more about it as well.
