I would like to know if this bowl is made in Murano, and if so, who can it be attributed to and when it was made. This bowl is absolutley amazing looking and I've seen similar pieces attributed to AVEM. It is triple cased in clear, white, and orange. There is so much gold and silver sparkle in it. The pics don't even do it justice. The shape is very unusual too.

Thank you very much!

Hi Stephend!

I love the colors of your vase but I do not believe it is in the AVEM Tutti Frutti style.

Click on this URL for a picture of a vase considered a Tutti Frutti and some links to other pictures as well. Tutti Frutti It is an amalgamation of many pieces of glass, including reticillio and zanafirico canes.

I do think that it is probably is Murano, possibly Fratelli Toso- they have made many similar items. I will check and see if I can identify it any further.

Thank you for your input. The site below has 2 very similar examples - #5937 and #5906 in the Italian (Unidentified) section. They describe it as from the 50's. Anything you can find out would be much appreciated!

Steve, I have seen these bowls attributed to Fratelli Toso, though I do not have a picture of one of them in my books. The white opalescent bottom has the look of Toso. If your bowl has a neat, ground and polished base, chances are it is F. Toso.

I've also seen these bowls attributed to Dino Martens, but I don't pay much attention to the claims without verification. Dino Martens is often used by sellers to attract buyers.

If someone has Pina's 1950's book, maybe there is something definitive inside. The look was popular in the 50's & 60's. Your bowl is bold and daring. Nice find.

Here is a similar bowl with a label. We'll have to get the label experts to decide which company this is.

A link would help: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-MURANO-AVEM-AVENTURINE-BOWL-WITH-LABEL_W0QQitemZ160023130142QQihZ006QQcategoryZ994Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

[Aside: I saw someone selling Murano labels the other day -- I think they were Seguso and Barbini. Now I am unsure whether all labels can be trusted.]

Thank you for your replies. I mostly deal with American glass and pottery. This has been a good learning experience for me. Yes, the base (pontil) is ground flat and polished. I got this at an estate sale from a 50's ish woman who said that it was her Mothers, and she had it "a long time", so the 50's would make sense as a manufacturing date.

Thank you all.

The label looks to be from Vetreria Artistico Venezia, a giftware mfr, who made bowls and vases; but not one of the major collectible houses. Im not sure how long they have been around, or even if they are still in existance.

As an aside, check out http://www.fossilfly.com/muranolabels, for a sneak peek. I have added a gallery with about 40 labels, and have about another 35 to add, Vetreria Artistico Venezia being one of them. When I have it completed I will make a general announcement in the next week.
