Hello,

I'm a new member. I posted an into. Hope you've seen it. I'm a glassie, but must admit that I'm not very knowledgeable about Italian Glass, except that I can most likely id it as Italian and that can sometimes be wrong. I believe it's time to learn. This is such an easy forum to type into and I love the smileys.

The reason for my post: I have this ashtray that research on Ebay and the like has seemed to identify as a Sommerso Geode. I'd like to find out more about it. It has three cased layers and the colors seem EAMES era, amber on the outside, white in the middle and turquoise or "aquamarine" on the inside.. I'd love to find out the maker. I realize this is probably impossible. I can only hope and cross my fingers.

Thanks Bunch

It is a geode bowl. Cenedese and Seguso, among some others, are well known for their geodes. The inside of the bowl looks like it is an opalescent blue -- just gorgeous!

Hello again,

For the above Geode bowl, I took four photos at different angles then put them into a collage. Does anyone ID this as a signature, logo mark or perhaps it's just a chip on the bottom of the glass.

Help is appreciated.

Hi. Welcome to the forums!

Barbini and Fratelli Foso are also among the others who have made geode bowls. Yours is interesting in that it has 3 layers, rather than many that only have an inner and outer layer.

I do not think that the collage you posted is a signature or mark, but it is difficult to make out.

I just saw the bowl on eBay -- same picture. The bowl was attributed to Seguso...

Message edited -- I see that you listed it after inquiring. I hope you are able to get a fair price for it.

Thanks everyone for assisting on the bowl. After reviewing all the information and further research, I found it was more than likely Seguso. With the names in hand, I was able to do more research and the mark does look similar to some of the ones I've seen, but my camera and eyes are not the greatest so I had to say it was most likely a Seguso. I wish I could have gotten more, but that's the way it goes.

Thanks again,
Diana
