Hi, I was wondering if anyone here knows much about Galle vases... either that they could help me ID here or to direct me to another forum. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bidda :)

I know just enough about Galle to advise people to buy the vases only from reputable dealers :-) eBay and other places are loaded with counterfeits. I don't know why they haven't been banned. I've seen the signatures on many of the fakes and it doesn't look like any of Galle's authentic marks.

Galle has some gorgeous vases. I wish I could afford one or two of the nicer ones :-) Sorry that I can't help you with a forum. I am sure there are quite a few out there, though they might be combined with other artisans of the area.

Thanks, Anita :)
Here are a couple pictures of the vase I picked up. The listing said it didn't have any maker's marks and the picture was really fuzzy but I was curious so I snatched it up anway. It wasn't any of the dealers that list wares as "Galle signed" "Galle style" "Super Fine Perfect Franch Art" "Sculp" etc *tee hee* When it arrived I saw that it had a fine ground base and the "Galle" signature. I've since found very similar ones on two seperate websites that exclusively offer authenticated antique glass so, at this point, I'm thinking that it's probably the real deal. It's a tiny little thing, at just under 4" but I think it's quite pretty.

Nice vase, even if it is not Galle. I checked the signature and couldn't find an exact match with your vase. It looks a bit like Galle's cameo signature, but there are some big differences. However, from what I've read, Galle was pretty schizophrenic with the signatures, even working the name in with the design elements in some pieces. People must have fun working through his vases like a puzzle, trying to piece together the Galle' :)

I have thought about buying a Galle. Some of the cameo vases are gorgeous. The trouble is that I know I'm a chicken waiting to be plucked, since I know so little. If there's a vase no one is bidding on, I figure it is fake. If there is a vase that people are bidding on, the price of the ones I like gets beyond my price range fast. My tastes are far richer than my pocketbook :(

Do you know anyone who might be able to authenticate your purchase. It would be so cool if it is a Galle. Pretty glass is nice. A good name on it makes it an even better investment. I'm surprised the seller missed the signature. It looks pretty outstanding to me.

Anita,
I know what you mean about the authentic Galle' pieces flying out of range way too quickly. Luckily, the one was just in the regular glass bin, no attributions, so I thought, "hmmm...I wonder". There were two other bidders when I found it. I checked their previous 15 purchases (because I'm nosey and like to learn who knows what ha ha and to calibrate my "eye" by observing the pros) and they bought a lot of really high end glass so I figured I was onto something. I hated going as high as I did (though nowhere near a Galle-ish price... I'm cheap and poor) but I just had such a strong feeling about it, even with the crappy picture and description. I'm sure if the seller had seen the signature and/or taken better pictures this vase would have gone for a LOT more and I'd have had to let it go :( Since it arrived, I've been doing an ungodly amount of research and every day I become more convinced that it's authentic. I have an appointment this weekend with a proffessional art appraiser so, I'll be able to let you all know by Monday if the pictures I've submitted are of a genuine Galle' or if they can be added to the "what not to buy" gallery ;)

keeping my fingers crossed till then,

Bidda
