Purchased at an estate sale of two elderly sisters. I have no idea what this is. the glass stands 13" tall and the stem is 5" in length. It is a deep deep amethyst in color almost back at a glance. The top comes off.

I don't recognize it as a Murano piece. Did they say it was Murano? There are more of the pieces that I don't know than I do know.

Hi. Murano tableware had been in vogue for many years, but it is much more ornamental and brightly colored I agree with TXsilver, I dont think it is Murano. The lidded design is interesting.

This type of jar on a pedestal is called a Pharmacists Jar and many were made in Italy. I could not say yours is Venini but they brought out a line of them in 1958. Note these types of shapes were also copied by US firms so it is tricky to say for sure where yours came from.

I've seen many of these types of vessels. They were a must-have during my mother's time. I've seen them call keepsake vases and covered compotes. They are very handy to hold those tiny things that would get lost in a drawer. Some of them were very beautiful and ornate.
I noticed pappy's vase has a dull finish, almost like it is painted. Is it satin, corroso, or paint?

I've heard these referred to as Wedding Compotes.

I ran across a purple Tiffin piece today that looked a lot like this one, but it had some decorative handles and a colored finial. It was referred to as a candy dish. I'll have to go through some of my catalogs to see if I can find what the glass marketers call them -- probably a lot of different things :)
