These were two gorgeous birds that were not very common. It was sad to lose two to a poor packing job. The birds had a single piece of bubble wrap, very little newspaper, and a box that was only 4" deep. It was a recipe for breakage. I bought them on eBay. I feel for the seller because he/she didn't insure them. I'm glad I used PayPal.

My Extreme Sympathies. They looked Beautiful. What a Shame !!! Do these people not *CARE* about the pieces they are selling. I mean that was a piece of Original Glass History there. Every piece is a Work of Art !!

So very sad to hear your news. The very same thing happened to me with an ebay sale. I had purchased two fighting cocks that were probably circa 1910 or 1920 and they were exquisite. I did have them insured and got my money back, but we all know you can't replace original art like that. They will never happen again. Heartbreaking.

Oh, no, not two fighting cocks. That was a terrible loss. The Fratelli Toso birds are much more common than your two birds were. I love the old roosters. They are gorgeous, particularly the big ones.

That is so sad. They were beautiful. What happened? Did the seller not put enough bubble wrap around them? So sorry for your loss.

It is so frustrating to hear this, glass really isnt that difficult to ship. All it requires is some careful packing. I know I am tempting fate, but the last thing that was reported to me broken was at least 2 years ago. The seller deserves to lose out, including shipping costs.

I'm saddened by your loss. :(
I recently lost a pristine Vinini acrobat clown due to a sellers improper packing job, and while my money was returned, it still bothers me nonetheless.

Was is one of the Bianconi clowns? That is a terrible loss. I would be so upset I don't know what I would do.

Thankfully not - and in the spirit of full disclosure :) he may be a Seguso clown...
Nonetheless, he is a really well executed piece with gold leaf and bullicante.
It was one on the Jordan's imports from the late 50's/early 60's from the 3027 assortment.
He's the somersault clown with no shoes.
If you have a copy of Nancy Bingham's book, his brother is shown on page 101 - top left corner.
While I'm thinking about it, I'd like to ask a question.
Repair services - as this particular clown got me thinking about it.
Unlike the shattered birds, my clown suffers a single clean break that snapped off one leg - although there is some internal (subsurface) fracturing that has occurred.
Glass being glass, can it be reheated to the melting point and reattached?
I guess I'm asking if he can ever tumble again?
Does anyone have any experience with restoration services?
