Hello everyone. I recently ran across this piece and fell in love with it but more than curious about the value and if it is indeed Murano and when it was made. Any info would be truely appreciated.
6" tall from base to tip of fin, 10.5" from tip of nose to end of tail, clear tail, top fin and tip of nose, grass green color in middle swirled with purple on outer edges. It weighs about 3 1/2 pounds.

Hi. Does it have any labels or signatures? If not, it may be hard to determine...

No stickers, no signature, no engravings, no marks of any kind.

It looks Murano and is a nice piece, but I dont think you will be able to determine who made it, but without any further info, its very difficult to tell. Welcome to the world of Murano!!!

Hi,
I am new on this forum and I collect FM Konstglas, Ronneby, Sweden.
I have some information for you on your fish.
FM konstglas was started in 1961 by two Italian brothers who had come to Sweden in the mid 1950's. Josef (Giuseppe) and Benito Marcolin.
Your fish looks to be neodymium which means that the purpel/lilac changes colour under fluorescent light. If you look at it in daylight and then hold it under fluorescent light, you will notice that the purple/lilac turns to blue! Quite amazing!
I include several pictures for you from my collection and also a short company history on FM Konstglas taken from one of my FM catalogues.
So I would say that your fish is definately FM Konstglas!

hi Ingela, Welcome and thank you for your contribution to the forum. A great post, I know next to nothing about Konstglas, and found this very useful.

Wow, I have a bird with the same effect inside as that fish in the bottom picture. I wonder if it is also Konstglas...? I'd never heard of it before.

It is unusual, I have never seen a Murano piece with such a unique detail. It may well be FM Konstglas. Can you post a picture?

Sure, here's my bird. The other major difference that makes me think NOT Murano is that the bottom is ground, but not polished. Does anyone know if that would be consistent with FM Konstglas?

Hi,
I really like your bird! Could you please add a picture of the bottom? Thanks!
I have quite a lot of FM Ronneby/Marcolin.
Please note that FM stands for Färe-Marcolin. (It does not stand for "Fratelli Marcolin" or "Fare Marcolin")
I have a couple of albums on Webshots. You are welcome to have a look there to see some of my collection.

Enjoy!

Ingela, that is a beautiful collection. Some of those pieces are so absolutely unique...I've never seen anything like them! The turtle and the lion are my favorites, I think.
Here's the bottom of my bird. I'm not sure if this price sticker was from a retail store, or some kind of resale establishment.

Alengi, Thank you for posting the info on Färe-Marcolin, and linking to your webshots. I have learned something new today! The glass lion paperweight is terrific, very bold!:)

Hi Shannon,
Thanks for the picture. FM Konstglas Ronneby always has a polished bottom/base so your bird is not FM Ronneby.
I have almost 90 FM items in my collection, all with a polished base. I
have been to lots of antiques fairs over the years and every FM item I have
come across has had a polished base.

I've been thinking about my bird posted in this thread. It looks like high quality glass, yet has an unpolished bottom, and doesn't set exactly right. I think it may have been polished originally, but then ground down some time later, maybe to grind out a chip on the bottom edge? Does anyone else think this is probable? I just can't understand a piece like this with an unpolished base, because it really looks like it should be Murano or FM Konstglas...
Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi Shannon!
Your bird is still a mystery with its unpolished base. If it had a polished base
then yes it might be V. Nason (Murano) or FM but now ...?
Hope you will find out one day because I too am very curious to know who
made this bird!
