I bought this at an estate sale and have been trying to find out any information on it. Can you help? All I know is that is was made in Italy which is on the bottom of the cookie jar.

Pieces marked simply "Italy" or "Made in Italy" without a manufacturer's name are very common. Usually these items are made for specific exporters or large chain stores and department stores. The exporter often requires that the Italian manufacturer remains unknown to the buying public because several factories may, in fact, be producing the same identical item. If, for example, a large Department Store Chain such as J.C. Penny wanted two thousand examples of the vase you now own the company may contract several Italian factories to produce five hundred each. It would not serve J.C. Penny well to sell the same vase with four different manufacturer's name applied to the bases. It infers a lack of continuity and reduces customer confidence. We will never know precisely who the manufacturer was.
