Hello!
I am new to this site and ran across it by accident while searching the web trying to identify a recently aquired piece, of what I am fairly certan is, Murano Glass. I can't find one like it anywhere on the Internet and figured what better place to start than a sight which specializes in Murano Glass. It is a large heavy multicolored vase with knobs or drippings extruded on the surface. Here are the particulars: It is 9" tall, 2 1/2" mouth opening, weighs 7 3/4 pounds, the glass is 1" to almost 2" thick at the drips and has blue, amber and amethyst coloration inside near the base. It is well worn at the base. I've included a link to a couple of not so great pictures and would appreciate any help anyone can give me as to authenticity and attribution to a particular artist. I am also inserting my email link. Thanks!

Is there anything in particular that makes you feel it is Murano glass? I've seen a couple of similar frosted pieces on eBay that were new, but your vase definitely has some age on it. The frosted pieces that I saw had questionable origin, so wouldn't be of much help.

I ask if there is anything particular that makes you feel it is Murano because the photos look a bit like Mexican glass. Mexico makes some beautiful glass that is usually more cloudy than European pieces. There are usually a lot more bubbles, too, in a piece this age. It's hard to tell from photos, particularly when the piece of glass is unfamiliar. I hope someone knows a bit about your vase. I'm interested now and looking.

Anita,
I don't have a lot of experience with Murano glass, but many of the pieces I have seen that were said to be Murano have similar colors cased inside the crystal as this one does. The glass in my vase is pretty much crystal clear and there are very few bubbles present. I also seem to remember seeing a design such as this listed as Murano in a glass reference book some years ago. It is a very heavy and impressive piece and the glass has wonderful feel to it. Judging by the wear and the years of dirt that I cleaned out from underneath the "drips" I would say it's probably 40 to 50 years old. I will try to get some better shots of it, in natural light, on soon. Thanks for your reply and I appreciate your help. Take care!

I took a look at your vase, I do think that its from Murano, the colors, craftsmanship and organic shape do look Muranese, however trying to determine who made it may be difficult, but it is an unusual shape, so it might be more apparent.

The last pictures really show off the beauty of the vase. It does look very rich. I've never seen one like it, but I have a feeling that it is by one of the quality makers. The colors are beautiful.
