After the poll in the other thread, most people were supportive of adding an Italian Pottery forum to the website, as long as it didn't impinge on the the existing Murano glass forum that has been around for a while.
I have only added one category to begin with, and grow it slowly based on need. Duplicating the success of the the most popular "Murano websites" thread, I will do the same for the Italian Pottery forum, as many have found it useful in their research.
Thank you all for your comments and lets see how this turns out!

Hi Charlie, Just a thought about the new pottery forum. In view of the mainly 20th century interest re. Italian glass, wouldn't it be a natural widening of the interest to have a special focus on the famous designers of that period who as modernists, worked with ceramics as well as glass (other materials too)? Designers like Carlo Scarpa, Fornasetti, Gio Ponti, Sottsass etc. There seems a natural affinity between glass and ceramics in these contexts.
I am completely new to 'glass' but have developed a firm interest since taking groups of ceramics students to Italy every year on field trips. We often go to Venice (Carlo Scarpa) and of course, Murano. Faenza is another venue for us where Majolica reigns and Florence introduced us to the fabulous Ginori ceramics. Gio Ponti's early majolica for Ginori is to die for, would that I could afford to own piece.
Many of these designers worked together and you can see the influences connecting ideas across the gamut of materials and products.
Anyway, it's a great idea to have a ceramic form. I love ceramics and would love to read other members views (and hopefully make a contribution myself from time to time)
Thanks for all the good work on the forums - it's been really educational for me.

Thanks for the great ideas Val! There are many intertwining themes and techniques between glass and pottery, even in Museums then are often lumped together. In the future, I would like to add a section to the photo gallery of artists that have worked in both mediums, I am more a new comer to the pottery, so it would be a learning experience for myself also. Looking forward to seeing you post.
