is this murano? I'm not sure if it is a vase or an ashtray. It has a criss cross or waffle like pattern on the bottom.

The vase looks like a Chalet piece to me. Does it have any labels?

Check out this site (http://www.mblaisgallery.com/dynamic/artists/Chalet_Art_Glass.asp) for a bunch of similar pieces. The crosshatching on the bottom is unique though.
