Special to The Press-Enterprise Several works by internationally known Italian glass artist Elio Quarisa are on display at the Redlands Historical Glass Museum.
Quarisa, now retired from active glassmaking, lives on the Venetian island of Murano and travels the world giving workshops and demonstrations.
"We are honored that Maestro Quarisa's beautiful contemporary art glass will be part of the museum's permanent display," said Frank Herendeen, museum president.

Glass created by internationally known Murano artist Elio Quarisa is on display and consignment at Redlands Historical Glass Museum.

Quarisa is one of several contemporary glass artists who have agreed to display their work in the Contemporary American and European Glass Museum that will open in 2008 next to the Historical Glass Museum, Herendeen said.
Quarisa also chose the Redlands museum as the West Coast site for his consigned pieces.
Quarisa started working in the Murano glass factories at the age of 9. He was hired in 1949 by the Barovier & Toso glass studio, where he worked for 27 years. He left as an affirmed primo maestro, the highest category of glassmaker, according to his biographical information.
"Since then he has worked with a number of the great studios and designers on Murano," Herendeen said.
They include such studios as Seguso Vetri D'Arte, Venini, Moretti Ulderico, Vetreria De Mayo and Elite.
Quarisa has traveled extensively in the United States and in 2001 made an appearance at the Southern California Glass Exchange, co-sponsored by San Bernardino Valley College and Cal State San Bernardino.

"We developed a relationship with him at that time," said Jim Stewart, ceramics and glass instructor at Valley College.
In March, Quarisa attended the Glass Exchange event, also sponsored by the Redlands Historical Glass Museum.
"He brought in some of his glasswork for that event and made more pieces here," Stewart said.
Many of his pieces were sold at the event's fundraiser.
"He left the remaining pieces for the museum," said Stewart, who is a former museum board member and a patron.
Quarisa's consigned pieces are priced from $425 to $850, with the museum offering a 20 percent discount, Herendeen said.
The museum, at 1157 N. Orange St. in Redlands, will hold its annual open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 15. The event will include a silent auction. For information, call 909-793-3333 or visit www.http://GlassMuseums.com
