Label ID?

Hi,
I just returned from my annual trip to my favorite antiques flea market, where I found a lovely millefiori bell. It has a small aqua blue label shaped a bit like a shield. On the top it says MURANO in larger letters, on the bottom "Made in Italy" in smaller letters, and above "Made in Italy" is what appears to be a stylized bird. The letters and the bird figure are gold. Is anyone familiar with that label? (I know this forum used to have a link to Murano label identification but I can't seem to find it). Thanks for any help you can give me!

There was discussion about this label on another board, but nobody volunteered the name of the company using it. I have a couple of pieces (including a very nice sommerso swan) that have the label. I did learn that the rooster is a traditional symbol of Murano.

Hi, Thanks so much for the thread and all the helpful posts. As the label on my bell is fairly small I hadn't even noticed the detail of the fox on the rooster's back, but you can be sure I took a closer look right away, and sure enough, there he was! I appreciate all your help -- this forum is such a great resource for Murano collectors! Too bad e-bay listers and buyers don't refer to it more often!!

I have the feeling that it is a general export label that was used for a while. I've seen it on some pieces that looked like they came from different companies. I'm not sure about this, though.

BTW, I was talking about the little blue shield form label, and not the Bucella label in the last message.

After I wrote the last message, I remembered seeing something quite unusual on eBay a couple of days ago. There was a paperweight that I am fairly certain was made by Fratelli Toso, but it had the shield-like cock-fox-snake label. I had never seen this label on a F Toso piece. I wondered if it was a transplant label or if sometimes F Toso used the generic export labels.

I have always been under the impression that they were import labels rather than from a specific manufacturer in Murano.

That makes sense. I have seen the label on glass that looks like it was made by Nason, Ferro, or Cenedese. I thought that companies such as these were the only ones that used the shield until I saw the Toso paperweight. If it is an import label, we could see the work of many companies that have the same label.
