I have a LARGE Black Glass (Amethyst glass I believe) Horse head sculpture signed by Pino Signoretto with another mark 4/7 (I believe this denotes it is number 4 of an isue of 7 sculptures). I have had this piece since around 1995 and it is EXTREMELY HEAVY, bieng solid glass with overall dimensions of 30" X 17' X 8" with an attached base shaped like an enormous horse shoe mad of wood with a chrome plated steel surface and gold/brass "faux Nails". It is always an item of great interest and admiration. The pictures enclosed are of the sculpture including the signature etched into the glass on the right side beveled edge. If anyone has any idea how to evaluate this item or has seen another like it please respond. I need to liquidate some of my collected art pieces and due to it's heft and size it needs an appropriate place for displaying this sculpture to allow it's beauty to be shared by others.

Gorgeous horse. I love the pure look of the black glass. It is difficult to put a price on glass, particularly rare pieces that there is not much information on. Signoretto masterpieces tend to sell for multiple thousands. Horses are popular themes, so your horse is probably worth a good bit. If you need to set a value on it, a professional opinion would be best. Professionals have access to auction catalogs and other resources that the general population does not have.
Anyway... it is a beautiful horse.

I agree, its gorgeous! It looks as its made of stone rather than glass. I did a fast google search, and it appears that Pino is rather fond of horses, making a life size glass horse for the Venice Biennial a few years ago. It is definitely a limited series as the signature implies, further increasing its value. I can help with a valuation, but would suggest using an appraiser. My second piece of unsolicited advice is, don't sell it! :)

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate the ideas and the advice (to keep it) but I need to get an appraisal as everyone suggests and I was hoping maybe someone had seen or heard of this piece before. The sculpture is glass as I mentioned and when held in front of a strong light source you can see the purple (amethyst) color of the glass, although it appears to be black in normal light. If anyone has a recommendation as to whom to attempt to contact to get an honest appraisal PLEASE let me know. If anyone has an interest in the piece for their own collection let me know as well. Ken

Hi. Have you tried the Corning Museum of Glass? They have a world class Murano Collection and may be able to give you the contact information for an appraisal or help you in identifying the piece. I love the sculpture by the way! Magnificent! To my untrained eye, It has to be worth a few thousand dollars.
