I have bought many pieces on eBay this past month. I have received a broken cornucopia vase, a chipped Venetian plate, a cracked AVeM swan, two broken Salviati cordials (mail damage), a broken birds-in-tree sculpture, a chipped Toso bird, a chipped Seguso bowl, and a chipped Moser. Today I received the clincher -- 2 multiply-chipped Seguso candleholders.
Only two of the things that I bought this past month have arrived undamaged. (All things I bought were described as having no damage.) It's apparently a bad time to be buying from unknown sellers. I think I'll stick with the names I know and trust.

That is rediculous! I would send all of them back immediately, especially if it was stated in the auction that the items weren't chipped or cracked. I have had similar experiences, a Fratelli murrine bowl was cracked upon arrival. Its one thing to get your money back, but another to see a piece of artwork that has been around for almost 100 years destroyed. The reimbursement just doesnt seem to cover it!

I feel the same way that you do about the glass, Alex. It is heart-breaking to me to see badly damaged glass, particularly if it is a rare piece. When a piece is really old, I can understand a flea bite or some other small amount of damage, but to see them cracked due to negligence is maddening.
I returned most of the damaged pieces. The cost of postage is starting to add up, particularly since the postage rates have increased. I was thinking earlier today while I was packing up the two Seguso candlesticks that soon I could have bought a Venini with the price I was paying for postage. :( A sad thing about the candlesticks is that they are Archimedes pieces that both had the sticker on bottom. They go with a fairly rare table set that he designed.
I wondered if a lot of people are going to garage sales right now and finding damaged things to sell on eBay. I do not mind that people sell damaged things as long as they are listed honestly. They must hope that the buyer will just keep them, rather than bothering to return them. I guess that all we can do is return them and leave honest feedback.
