I sure hope there is someone out there who can assist or offer some advice.

I have a very treasured piece, about 40 years old. It's a huge uranium glass mushroom, lime-ish green with deep red and aventurine (sparkly!) spots on top. It has what I would call a "stress crack" on the top. It's relatively small, but I know it's there. It has a shape like a letter "c" and kind of surrounds one of the spots. It in no way detracts, but I am curious if that can be made to disappear. This line is truly in the interior of the glass, just below the surface; which is really quite smooth even above the line.

Question: Am I best to leave well enough alone?

OR
Is it even possible/economical to have something like this repaired?

I have no experience with restoration or even how someone goes about finding someone to do the restore work. There's no dimple in the glass, just this line.

So...am I obsessing over a detail too microscopic? Perhaps. I guess I just wonder if it could be "fixed." Being Uranium glass and all, does that affect this at all?

Do any of you have experience with something like this?
Is repair worth the anxiety it may cause?
Yikes...this raises so many questions my head is muddled.

THANK YOU in advance to anyone who can share some insight. These forums are an amazing resource and always fun to read.

Hi. I have created a web page about Murano glass repair here:
http://www.fossilfly.com/Murano_Glass_Repair.htm, about Giovanni Nason who repairs glass for a living. Epoxies are widely used, so it probably wouldnt be too difficult to repair, but it being uranium glass makes it interesting. I would be interested in hearing how the repairs came out if you do decide to go that route. However being an interior flaw, the repair may be more damaging in the long run than the original scar. Give him a call, and see what he says!
